Toratech

An Ethiopian AI company, for Ethiopian conditions

We build practical AI systems for organisations here, and train the people who have to live with them afterwards.

Our vision

An Ethiopia where every organisation, from a regional clinic to a federal ministry, works with AI it understands, controls and owns, built and run by Ethiopian engineers, and a model for the rest of Africa.

Our mission

To build practical AI systems for Ethiopian organisations, prove their value in hours saved and errors avoided, and train the people who run them until they no longer need us.

Build

Process automation, document assistants and on-premise deployments that fit the work, the languages and the infrastructure here.

Train

Live, hands-on training on each learner's own work, so the skill is still there the week after the course ends.

Hand over

Runbooks, handover sessions and support until your own team runs the system without us.

Toratech AI works with organisations in Addis Ababa and across Ethiopia on the unglamorous half of artificial intelligence: the invoices that take three people a week to process, the policy documents nobody can find an answer in, the maintenance logs that hold a pattern no one has time to look for.

We came to this from engineering rather than from software. That shapes what we build. An engineer who has signed off a drawing understands immediately why a system that invents a plausible standards clause is worse than one that says it does not know, and why the confidence threshold matters more than the demonstration.

The training business exists because the building business kept running into the same wall. A good system used by staff nobody trained gets abandoned within a quarter. So we teach, and we teach against the learner's own work rather than a tidy example, because that is the only version anybody keeps using.

Core values

What we stand for

01

Integrity over hype

We tell clients plainly what AI can and cannot do for them, and we make no claim we cannot put a number behind.

02

Your data, your control

Documents, records and models belong to the organisation that owns them. Where the law or the risk requires it, they stay in Ethiopia, on your own servers.

03

People first

AI should take the drudgery out of a job, not the person out of it. We design with the staff who will use a system, not around them.

04

Engineering discipline

Tested, documented and versioned like any other system that matters, with a clear fallback to a person whenever the model is unsure.

05

Responsible by design

Every system we deliver has a named owner, a record of what it did, and a person who can override it. Accountability is built in, not added later.

06

Capability that lasts

We measure our success by how little you need us a year later. Every engagement leaves your team more skilled than it found them.

How we work

Measured, or it did not happen

Every engagement and every capstone ends with a number: hours saved, error rate before and after, cost per run. A demonstration that impresses a room is not evidence, and we do not present it as one.

Built for where it runs

Intermittent power, expensive bandwidth, documents in four languages, and regulators who will not accept data leaving the country. These are the normal conditions here, and designing around them is most of the work.

Handed over, not held

Every build ends with your team owning it: a runbook, a handover session, and training. A supplier who keeps the knowledge has sold you a dependency rather than a system.

We say when not to

The readiness assessment frequently concludes that the thing a client came in asking for is not worth building. Telling them costs us a project and earns the next three.

Work with us

Start with a readiness call. An hour is usually enough to tell whether there is a real project here.
